Log Book: Alligator Creek - October 2003

Once again our friends from Summer Slopes had a good laugh. They caught up with us while we were anchoring on the side of the channel waiting for the tide change, refusing to motor against the current. Jim had a good chuckle, since this reinforced his, somewhat found, belief that we anchor anywhere and anytime we feel like. We agreed to meet up at Alligator Creek for the night.
The anchorage was spacious, gorgeous and well protected. It would be a great place to recover from the previous night. Even though no alligators were spotted, Johannes opted to pass on our daily swimming ritual. We ate well this evening. We had some steaks and even a bottle of red wine – a rare treat in our budget conscious life-style. Johannes gave me a great and much needed hair-cut and we were ready to socialize. Problem with meeting people on that kind of anchorage is that after full day of sailing, no transient wants to bother lowering or inflating a dinghy to visit other boats on the anchorage. Everybody is tired, ready to chill out and call in an early night planning to get up early as well. So it was this time as well. We chatted over the VHF radio a bit and said good night. Sadly it would be the last time for us to see Summer Slopes.
In Florida we would make very slow progress, staying in some places few days at the time, enjoying hot beaches and numerous towns, bidding some time before Kelley’s arrival to Miami, when we would leave our boat and for couple of weeks become landlubbers.
As I mentioned before Johannes engaged in the art of hair cutting and we were both better for it, sporting new, sharp hair cuts. Yes he cuts his own hair too. On this anchorage I started to experiment with my facial hair, letting some shrubs grow free on my chin. I am pleased to report we had no hairy situations that night and slept blissfully and uninterrupted.
