St. Marys

We were a bit out of our way again, but since it was the last place we could visit in Georgia we sailed up the river to visit the town of St. Marys.

The town was truly gorgeous - just like you would expect. Local folks like to converge at the waterfront restaurant neatly kept for the pleasure of the town. Waitresses are pretty; local galls who know everyone by name. Strangers are us. My accent stands out like a spoon in a peanut butter jar. We walk into a dinning hall met by a curious glances and a very brief pause in the conversations. Make sure when you ask for directions that people understand you are not driving. Right, straight and left after the lights. After few mile walk we saw the library. Neatly dressed, dignified lady signed us up for the Internet. It’s good to catch up with friends. We miss them so much.

For the night we returned to our boat and dropped both of our anchors just in case. The currents were swift and depth of the river varied greatly. We were situated in the bend of the river. Not the best place for the night but would have to do. Just in case happened about 2am when crazy current picked our boat with both of her anchors and dragged her some couple of hundred feet there and back. We got hooked again. The water was rushing around the hull of the boat at good 5 knots. There wasn’t much we could do except to check how we are holding from time to time. Needles to say I didn't sleep much the rest of the night. Next morning we took off and crossed into the state of Florida. We will be spending the night in the Alligator Creek. Are there any alligators? – Johannes wants to know.
